T43 - Battery drain after shutdown

#1 Post by petercgoh » Sun Jun 29, 2008 6:13 pm

I use an IBM t43 with win Xp as my OS. The battery will last about 4+ hours when using the notebook without connecting to the power supply. Recently i noticed that after shutdown (Not hibernate or standby), the battery LED of the notebook is still lighted up. After six hours the battery is completely drained. I have to remove the battery from the notebook in order to preserve the power. Why is this happening? it only started about 5 days ago. I have been using the notebook for the past 3 years.

Look in the event log and see if a device prevents shutdown from finishing

Thanks for the speedy reply. In the even log i have this warning but i can't seem to find anything wrong

Windows saved user PETER\peterc_goh registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

check in your BIOS if you have setting something like "LAN wake-up" enabled, can't tell exact title or location
