t41p won't power up
t41p won't power up
It was acting kind of flakey in that my wife, who is it's primary user, said it just shut off one day. Then, she could turn it on briefly, but it wouldn't stay on. Now, it only partially powers up, in that either on battery or AC, when I hit the power button, the status lights come on and I can hear the hard drive and fan spin, but then all lights go off, except the battery and "power on" lights, which remain green. There is NO change to the display.
I tried the power button 10 times, holding the last for 15 seconds, but nothing. I opened up the unit (I've previously replaced the fan and wifi card), and unplugged and then replugged in the backup battery, made sure all screws were tightened, and then tried to power up again, but no change in status. What next? Thanks!

Sounds like the GPU problem to me. No need to open it up, just press and keep pressure on the plastic bar between the mouse buttons and space bar before pressing the power on button.pmradio wrote:I was wondering if it might be the infamous GPU problem. I guess I'll open it up again and try pressing down on the GPU.
If I need a new motherboard, whats the best way to find one that can be "trusted"?

I found with our T41p that just lifting the left hand corner of the laptop a few mm was enough to start or stop power up. Fortunately the new motherboard was covered by warranty.underclocker wrote:...No need to open it up, just press and keep pressure on the plastic bar between the mouse buttons and space bar before pressing the power on button.
