Display on my T42p is out of order

#1 Post by papadave » Mon Dec 20, 2004 6:28 am

HI there,

my T42p (2373-HTG) felt down on the ground (onto the left, upper corner (USB Ports)
since then i get not signal on the display.
The view leds (HDD, Bat, Sleep) are still working.

Everything else works fine
(i can use the notebook with an external display),
but I get nothing on the LCD :-/

Has anybody any Idea,
what I can check/do,
because I don't realy spend some weeks
in waitung for the repair of my baby.

Maybe, there is only a connector loose?

David

Hopefully, it's just a loose connector. But it might be a broken component from the shock. Time to send it in for service. :(

now, I can see a very very dark image on the LCD, so there must be the backlite defect?

Has anybody any experience of the service?
How long will it last to get the Thinkpad working again?

It will be quick...but the warranty does not cover "abuse"...so you may have to pay out of pocket for this one....

Unless you bought the Thinkpad Total Protection Warranty, in which case it would...

If you want to try a repair on your on (ill advised) you can download the hardware maintenance and service manual from here for free:

is it possible to buy this warranty _now_ (in this case) ? :)
To you have any idea what the total protection warranty will cover?

Thank you for the link.
But it is quite difficult to repair (i already demounted several thinks)
as far as i don't know what part I have to change.

The fact that you can see faint images means the connection is probably OK. Most likely the CCFL (cold cathode flourescent lamp) broke. They are quite delicate and the drop may have broken the filiment.
