T40 doessn't power up

#1 Post by John H » Mon Jul 07, 2008 10:01 pm

I pushed the power button and the T40 didn't startup or show any sign. It felt warm since it's a very hot day and I'd been using it an hour before, so I put it in the bottom shelf of the refrigerator to cool off. An hour later it was cool and still wouldn't startup. I put it in the dock and tried the start button there, too, with no luck.

Well 1st off the worst thing you could have done was shock it by putting it in the fridge.

Unplug power cord remove battery and then press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds see if it will then start up.

You may have caused the mainboard to warp when cooling like that and damage it.

Sorry to say if the power discharge method had no results and you are sure the a/c adapter and battery are functioning motherboard replacement is your only option.

It's working. Everything returned to normal. But on reflection I think it wasn't a good idea to refrigerate the T40.

It dishcharges the mainboard and resets it so it can startup.

I'll remember that!

Meanwhile, the T40 is running well, apparently undamaged from my unwise trip to the refrigerator.
