T4X Interchangability-similarities & differences?

#1 Post by boris » Thu Jul 10, 2008 11:45 pm

1. How many of my T41 parts will fit a t42, t42p, t43, t43p? Does anyone have a reference on the differences & similarities? Are the parts only interchangeable on the t4X series?

2. I have read on posts that the T4Xp has the ability for duocore. Does that mean I can install two processors?

The reason I am asking is that my motherboard appear to be toast (after dropping it). It started with no screen, then loading errors, now it is irreponsive to the on button-nothing even on a monitor plugged into the side ect.

Now I need to consider my options. This computer has lasted about 3.5 years, I love it and don't really want to go with anything else.

Thank you for your help!

T40/T41/T42 are interchangeable. T43 will require some minor modifications and different parts:

1. The PC Card slot is different.
2. The plastic spacer inside is different.
3. The CPU fan/heatsink is different.

You will need new CPU, RAM, BT CDC and wireless card.

T40/41/42 are mostly compatible. Many plastic parts on 14.1" and 15" (apart from obvious LCD differences) are not compatible. T40-T42 use PC2700 memory and Banias/Dothan Pentium M CPUs.

T43's are superficially similar but use different memory, CPU and HDD interface. Not sure about plastics either.

Your best bet is to consult the Hardware Maintenance Manuals:

T40/41/42/p
T43/p

Re the Duocore question - this is not 2 physical processors. It refers to 2 cores on one chip and to the best of my knowledge no T4* series runs duo core.

Thank you. It is nice to know that the t43 is fairly different, and that the T40-42 are similar enough. I also appreciate the link.

Again, thank you.
