Fingerprint Reader Only Partially Working

#1 Post by Richard123 » Sat Jul 12, 2008 8:41 pm

I have a ThinkPad T42 laptop with the fingerprint reader. I am running version 5.6.2 of the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software.

How do I "turn on" the fingerprint reading function? When I boot the computer, it asks me to swipe my finger for the Window's log on. So that part is working correctly. But at no other time am I given the option to use my fingerprint scanner (such as trying to sign into my Amazon.com account). Is there a Ctrl or Fn key that I need to use? I have obviously enrolled my fingers correctly, since I can swipe my finger for the Windows logon.

Thanks.

i think you need the css package installed to do anything more than windows login password / boot password control via the fingerprint reader.

have a look here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... idate=true
and see if your tp supports the css package listed. there may be a newer version, but this is as close as i could come.

Is IBM Embedded Security Subsystem the same as Client Security Solution? That's all that I can find in my control panel.

No it's not the same. The Embedded Security Subsystem is a chip that can be used to store passwords and certificate private keys. You can setup CSS to use this chip. As sarbin said you need Client Security Solution (password manager which is included with CSS) installed on your computer. I don't have it installed at the moment, but when installed (unless i'm wrong) you should find it under Thinkvantage under the start menu.
