OEM Multi-burner for T40

#1 Post by armortec » Wed Dec 22, 2004 4:47 am

Anyone had successfully fitted an OEM multi-burner into a T40/41 thinkpad? The original from IBM is too expensive!

Don't I wish... I didn't realize that it was a 9.5mm slot (and all OEM drives are 12.7mm) until today (after a Pioneer DVR-K14L Slimline Dual Layer Recorder I just ordered arrived).

Now my debate is to try and get esbuy to take it back (a note indicating it won't work with T4x machines would be nice) with the 15% restock hit (ouch), or get some external usb2 slim enclosure for it and just stick it in the bag...

Darn it, I was really looking forward to the upgrade.

Armortec...the UJ-812 is the drive you speak of. You can look around and find it much cheaper...a guy on this forum is selling one right now. Make him an offer and see if he goes for it. If you read the entire thread you'll know my situation with the same drive as well.

madeinjapan,

Yup, i have read it, thanks. I wonder how did you modify the front bezel? I have a local shop selling the UJ815B, slot in type, or the UJ815MBT tray type. The tray is around $174, but i am not sure is it a 9.5mm type or not.

Yep....think you're stuck with the 812 for now if you want multi-burner in your T40 series. At the moment, we know of no other drive that fits.....nothing as thin (9.5mm). Eventually there will be others selling the slim drive, but not yet.
