T42 everything got broken all of a sudden!

#1 Post by michaelkane » Sun Jul 20, 2008 9:08 am

This is completely strange. My T42 used to work just fine but today all of a sudden everything seems like broken.

1. I had to remove one memory from 2GB to 1GB because the Windows XP was hanging and giving blue screen in the start.

2. Second the hard drive malfunctioned and even repartitioning is not able to fix it properly. Windows is complaining that the drive is not functioning properly. Multiple solutions incl. Hiren Boot cd is tried to get rid of drive problems but I am half way there.

3. DVD Rom what happened to that? In just one day!?
WHen reinstalling windows corrupted by the bad memory, it is giving me error when copying installation files, that happened to all installations CDs I had for XP. That never happened before, and it is not reading the DVDs properly for installation.

Had anyone heard something like this before? WHat exactly is the problem, seems all all hell broke lose and not working properly in just one day. Either I am going crazy or someone cursed my laptop!

Thanks.

It sounds to me like u still have bad RAM. Run memtest86 to test it.

Hello Brad,

No it never overheated. Although it is showing increased drive temperature of 34 degrees, but on touching thats not the case.

Harry, I will try memtest but i doubt its RAM, because I have been creating/deleting partitions on the drive and it never gave any problem. I am using Hiren's applications just fine without any major issues.

Thanks.

Sounds like it could have been hit with a large dose of static electricity or some other kind of electrical spike/surge.

Very unlikely that all three parts would go bad at the same time otherwise.
