Hi,
I cant beleive this hadnt been addressed before, but I have done a few searches... Which of the folders that come preonfigured on the T4* are safe to delete i.e. are not hardcoded anywhere such that i cannot point to another location? Im not in the mood to reinstall everything, so I would like to clean up the existing drive. Ideally I would like to move anything I dont regularly need onto a dvd-r for backup.
c:\ICONS - A few bitmaps??
c:\drivers - Do these need to always be accessable?
c:\i386 - Do these need to always be accessable?
c:\ibmshare - What is this all about?
c:\ibmtools - Do these need to always be accessable?
c:\support - Surely I can delete this?
c:\valueadd - Surely I can delete this?
Default folders - Safe to delete?
c:\ICONS - Probably safe but I leave it.
c:\drivers - Insides are gone but I leave the main folder for Software Installer.
c:\i386 - This I leave. It can be deleted but back it up 1st
c:\ibmshare - I've left it.
c:\ibmtools - Again insides are gone but folder remains for software installer.
c:\support - Gone
c:\valueadd - I deleted it

C:\Icons is used for one of the Access IBM applications. It is a strange place for the folder, but it is too tiny to worry about. Don't delete it.
C:\Drivers is used for driver setup routines. It can be deleted, but I don't see much point. It gets re-created and used for every/any driver install (and they just seem to keep coming from IBM). All the preload plus all the current drivers amounts to 250Mb and doesn't bother me.
C:\IBMtools is used to hold the application and driver files that need to be exploded into C:\Drivers. This folder also holds licensed software that is not available on the IBM Support site, and can only be "retrieved" by re-imaging the system. I definitely would not delete this folder. More than one user has deleted the folder only to regret it later. Fairly large at 650Mb, though.
C:\Support is used by IBM Access Support. If you don't want that, I think it can be deleted, but it is only 12Mb.
C:\Valueadd is demo and other (most worthless) software. Delete it.
C:\IBMshare - never had this folder on any IBM desktop or laptop. I don't know what it is.
C:\i386 is used for Windows updates and maintenance. I would not delete this folder.
