T43p shuts down when battery is moved / not making contact?

When I grab the extended "handle" on the battery it causes the machine to shut down. Is there anything to check on the battery or the laptop that might be causing this? Maybe some corroded contacts?

It could be a contact problem, but it would be hard to fix. The contacts on the machine can easily be seen with the battery removed. You can clean then with a cotton cloth dampened with denatured alcohol. It is more likely the "springy" contacts on the battery. They are hard to get at. (You can try the same way as on the machine.) If the springs are not as "springy" as they used to be, you cannot fix that.
