OK to leave Ultrabay battery in while on AC power?

#1 Post by rocketman » Thu Dec 23, 2004 8:47 am

Is there any reason not to leave the ultrabay extended battery in while running my T42 on AC Power? I put it in when I was on battery power a few days ago and haven't removed it.

Hi!

Open the Batterymaximiser and check the Batterystatus.
If it says that there is NO activity it is all OK. NOTHING happens to the battery in this case.

Until now I don't have the ultrabay battery but as you will surely know you can set the threshold at which the battery is loaded again. If you use the Laptop a lot on AC I'd recommend to lower this threshold to at least 90% so that your battery won't be charged too often.
If you charge the batterie very often it may lose parts of its capacity or may even take permanent damage over the time.
e.g. You plug the Laptop to AC everytime, maybe twice a day, and always let the laptop charge the battery again from 99% to 100%. This will cause 730 (not necessary) charge cycles per year.

Follow the IBM-Help-Tips (Access IBM) for the handling of the battery. There are tips how often you should recharge your battery or use the laptop until the battery is completely empty. (Every (few) month(s) to keep it in good condition)
