FWIW, I have the POP and HD PWs set the same on my systems AND have an SP set on the BIOS.
I don't normally bother with an OS PW.
I don't do this for security purposes, but for the knowledge and small comfort I get from the fact that if one of my beloved Thinkpads were to suddenly be coveted by some ne'er do well, the thief will have garnered himself a doorstop.
Yes, these security measures can be broken, but not normally by a casual thief and not without spending a bit of money on the problem.
The top of the unit has a prominent label affixed that reads "This laptop protected by secure, non-removable passwords."
That label is right next to the one that boldly states "WARNING - This laptop protected by genital devouring fungo bats!"
