What do you mean by "speed"? Booting time, processing time?

I noticed no difference.

Perhaps there are some processes that got automatically started as a result of installing SP2 that weren't started before? Example: System restore or something? I found no difference in 'speed' after SP2 (and tweaking out things I didn't want like "auto update" and such). Check www.blackviper.com for tweaks and what SP2 does.

I have been running SP2 since it came out, and it does not slow down my system in any way. As has been noted, check for processes running and see if they can be tuned in any way if they are valid processes. Also check for spyware with Ad-Aware or any other such tool. Some people use multiple sypware removers. Spyware is a very common cause of system slowdowns. In the worst cases, starting again (re-image) is easier and faster than getting rid of the spyware. ... I have several systems running with SP2 and could not notice any speed differences. Right now I am typing this post from a 500MHz Pentium III with SP2 installed. Before I got this old machine as Internet-Browsing-Computer I used a 233MHz Pentium with WinXP + SP2.

It IS possible... ;)

SP2 should not cause a noticeable speed decrease. As the others already said: Check of there are services running that you had disabled in the past.
Maybe it's a good chance to reinstall everything with an XP-CD that has SP2 integrated.

Mobile PC mag. said in their bench testing that SP2 did in fact slow systems down and in some cases at least, quite considerably. Like everyone else has said though, I haven't noticed a difference.
