T42P and maybe same upgrade for a T60 - Wireless N
We are currently running PCMCIA cards for our wireless on the soon to be retired T30 and my wifes newer T42P. I have an inbound T60 that is NIB. We are running a wireless N based network at home. I see these discussions on Atheros and Intel Mini-PCI cards. Is there one of these with N capability that will work in both the T42P and T60? IE I buy 2 of them and upgrade them both at one time. There is enough on here to create confusion in terms of mentions of bios issues, incompatibility and other problems. I sort of doubt there is a singular part that will work in both but I have to ask. I am open to what to get for each and what if any bios or other issues I will have to deal with. The T42P has XP Pro on it. The 60 is due here any day and has Vista on it but also has a disk with it with unknown contents (maybe the roll back to XP?) What would be a good way ahead for me?
Thanks,
Kevin
Thanks,
Kevin

I just bought this card (wireless B/G/and N MiniPCI card) from e-bay.
I'm going to try it in my A31P and mostly the T41.
I'll have to do the no-1802 hack but thats OK.
I should have the card in a week or two.
I was going to go for a pcmcia N card but this MiniPCI card was cheaper and thought i would give it a try.
Will be nice to have internal wireless B/G and N card in a T-41.

I have a 3rd short Wi-Fi/Bluetooth antenna here that i'll just stick by the side of the card. Not the best but it will work and alot easyer to install.I have other longet antennas here if one day i take apart the LCD i'll put a 3rd flat antenns in.sarbin wrote:^^^
will the 'b/g' antenna in these machines work ok with the 'n' mini-pci?
I'll find out in about 1 1/2 weeks when my card shows up...
I looked at alot of info on the pcmcia "N" cards and all the ones i seen were bassed on only haveing two antenna's.
From what i can find out if you dont hook up the 3rd "N" antenna you just wont get the full range out of the "N" speed.

I have the 3rd antenna installed in R51, A31 and A31p. In the A31/A31p, they are installed just to the right of the Ultraport. In the R51, it is installed about half way up the left edge in the LCD cover.
The R51 doesn't have a 11n card yet but the A31/A31p are working on 11n miniPCI cards branded Edimax. Looks to be a Ralink reference design. These are 2T3R (2 transmit/3 receive) cards and my 11n Airlink101 300N router has Ralink chipset also.

The Atheros card mentioned above is a 3T3R design and I haven't tried it yet.
My T60 has an 11n Atheros miniExpresscard and it works fine with the Airlink101 router. The 3rd antenna is also installed in the left edge about half way up.
