#1 Post by richieb » Thu Dec 23, 2004 3:42 pm

Is it possible to restart my t41 in ms dos mode to run a program. I don't have a fdd on this machine and wondered if there is a way to do this...Tia

There are lots of ways, but IMHO the simplest is to get an external USB memory stick and format it with the flavor of DOS you prefer, installing the system files on it.

You can boot to the memory stick if you set the boot order correctly. On my T30 I have to use the F12 function to do this; it won't remember it in the main BIOS boot order settings.

To me this seems simpler than setting up a multiple boot system on the HD, but if you frequently need to use DOS, that may be preferable.

I use the memory stick DOS for initiating backups with Drive Image.

I have a usb external disk but it won't boot from it, and i can't create a start up disk on it. You say 'format it with the flavour of dos'.... Excuse my ignorance but could you put it all into lamans terms for me....Tia
