LCD replacement issue

#1 Post by Tanith » Wed Jul 30, 2008 1:13 am

The LCD on my T43p (other specs below) started getting a little peculiar, particularly in the lower left hand corner, appearing sort of pinkish, which was more noticable at lower backlight levels. Last Friday, I was doing some work on it in the morning, and had turned it off around noon to go do something else, and when I attempted to turn the machine on again a few hours later, the backlight had completely died. I could just make out the IBM Thinkpad logo on the screen right after I turned it on, and that was about it.

I ordered a replacement screen, but made the mistake of getting the wrong-sized one. However, I have a new problem, namely that the machine now refuses to start at all after the screen has been removed, despite plugging the new one in without putting the LCD portion fully back together.

If someone could clarify if I have seriously damaged the laptop, or if it simply needs the appropriate screen and for everything to be properly reassembled before it is once again functional, that would be great.

What's the machine type/model of the T43P, and what is the part # of the LCD panel that you ordered?

If your machine is SXGA, the connections in the cable are non-standard. If you put the wrong panel in with the old cable you could have damaged the motherboard. (I have seen cases where it just didn't work and cases where something burned out.) Don't try it again without the right panel
