2373KXU -- all gone?

#1 Post by NathanA » Sat Dec 25, 2004 5:24 am

Hey all,

I'm just about ready to order a new T42p to replace my aging 770 (yes, I'm excited!!). I had decided on the KXU, but for some reason, it does not show up on the EPP site even though it is still available for purchase through both the Visa and MasterCard discount sites!

Does this mean that they won't honor the EPP discount for the KXU model? (I tried changing the URL during the "Customize and buy" part of the ordering process to get the KXU, but it just showed me "N/A" for the price and wouldn't let me check out.) I wasn't able to call them today because they were closed for the holiday, so I guess I'll have to try Monday, but I was just trying to get a feel for whether I'm wasting my time and should perhaps consider a different model.

By the way, out of curiosity, is there a reason why the KXU shows up as a T42p on the web site but the Q1U is "only" a T42? (I think the TABOOK lists the Q1U as a 'p'...the web site must have a typo, right?)

Merry Christmas!

Call IBM, I found there are many configurations that are not shown on the EEP site that they will quote you an EEP price for.

Rocketman is right. You can get the EPP price for all models in the TABOOK.
Some models probably have longer delivery time. I ordered my KXU by
calling EPP phone line a week ago and it is on its way for delivery in a
couple of days. Can't wait for it!

Lions and tigers and frammitz boosters, oh my!

#6 Post by NathanA » Mon Dec 27, 2004 5:29 pm

Nonny,

A frammitz booster, eh? Cool! I didn't know it included that feature! Score! ;-)

All,

You were correct...I called up the EPP order number, and they let me place the order no problem.

In fact, yesterday I called them up just to see if it was possible to do so and they were out of stock, but today when I was ready to place the order, I was told that they had 6 in stock! Mine is scheduled to ship out in a couple of days!!

w00t! :-)

Nathan,
Just wondering...what are the urls for the:
"Visa and MasterCard discount sites" as mentioned below? I have looked but could not find.

no problem at all.

however, the 2373-HVU is currently $2,703.20 plus tax (unless you ship it to oregon or alaska).   unless you can get EPP pricing, i'm not sure how you'll come close to $2299. :(

Actually, Erik, clear your cookies, restart your browser, and point it towards www.ibm.com/thinkpad. Tan Mann is right...the HVU is on sale right now to the general buying public for an incredible $2,299, which isn't that far off from the EPP pricing for the same model (this sale gives a savings of > 30%!). This is without any special discount program like the credit card ones...in fact, if you go through any of the credit card sites to buy it, you will end up paying more since it only gives you the standard 20% discount on that model. That's why you are seeing the $2,700+ price quote. IBM's site will only show you the "sale" price on the regular shopping page for the T series.

If you can't get EPP, this looks like an incredible deal. It's only 200MHz less in the CPU department and has the DVD + CD-R combo instead of the multiburner, but other than that, it is identical to the KXU in every way: same UXGA screen, same 7200RPM HDD, same video chipset and RAM, same amount of RAM (1GB), same networking options (IBM a/b/g, gigabit, 56K, bluetooth), same 9-cell battery, etc. (Of course, since it is the same generation as the KXU, there's no fingerprint reader.)

Speaking of KXUs... :-) My ship date keeps slipping. First I was told by the sales guy that they were in stock and it was scheduled to ship out in a couple days (the 30th actually). Then it gets pushed to January 3rd. Now the site shows the 17th!! :-( What gives?

nathan, i had gone in through the mastercard pricing and saw it at $2700.   you are correct that the regular page shows it at $2299, but since i had the mastercard cookie it never dawned on me to check the normal site and compare.   that's quite an error on ibm's part!

i stand corrected... but i blame it on the cookie! :D
