Strange covered LCD cover LEDS with tape

#1 Post by agarza » Thu Aug 07, 2008 4:03 pm

Just today I started seeing the LCD light on the LCD cover of my T4p, it was taped with like metallic tape or something, thing is now that I try to set the clear-plate there's a huge 'hole' between the LEDS and the plate. Here are some photos.

The top cover mysterious issue:

What is my laptop missing?

Your photos show the "missing" piece lying loose on the lid. Why not reattach it (you would probably have to take the lid bezel off and LCD panel out).

The piece on the lid is just a sticker..called a clearplate. There is also a plastic Lens that goes over that L.E.D. area. The clearplate (sticker) sticks on top of it.

Yes, so strange that piece of clear LED lens is missing on my machine. I was unable to get that particular piece, I'm looking locally for some dead T4x laptop to see if I can get the lens. If I put the clearplate over the raw bare circuitry would not stay put. The weird thing is that the tape had to be cut in order to discover the blocked LED lights. I'm replacing the SXGA+ panel anyways, so I'm unsure if this procedure (inserting the lens) require opening up the LCD cover.

Seems to me that a piece of plexiglass and a precision cutting device could make that lens easily. Glue it in place.
