Screen brightness for T42
Hi members of the community
I would like to known if there is any way of bypassing the brightness limitation to obtain more screen luminescence on a Thinkpad T42. I try BIOS way but already hignest level...
Working in day time, it's becoming horrorful...
Any idea or smart software ?
Ready to read, thank you

Does your screen have a red tint - when it starts up, or when the brightness is set to low ?
If so, you may have a fading backlight. Search the forum for "CCFL" or "backlight" for more information.

Good luck.
The CCFL bulb is smaller than a pencil and has 2 wires on each end. To say it is frustrating to replace one is putting it mildly. They are delicate in the extreme and contain mercury.
You are better off replacing the entire LCD than trying to replace the backlight. I'd get a whole LCD unit in it's frame and just swap it over. This way you don't have to dissasemble the upper part for the laptop. And you can sell off the old parts in the marketplace.

Either replace the whole LCD panel, or get someone competent to replace the backlight. See this threadfor an example.mosmoz wrote:A fading backlight would mean that i have to replace it, is that it ??
You can do it yourself - but it is tricky and you can ruin the screen or get dust specks if you're not very careful

Just a question related to this that someone might know...
I am guessing like everything, the screen on a laptop would have a finite life...
Would it be better to run it at low brightness as much as possible to lengthen the life, or is this not an issue / would not increase it by much?
Just a thought.

mosmoz, here's a temporary and very easy solution. Go to "Display Properties", open the "Settings" tab, click on "Advanced", and look for the "Color" menu. You can adjust your screen's gamma, brightness, and contrast.
