HD change: some questions...

I would like to change the HD in my T42p: is any HD ok to do this?
For example I found ha 2.5'' HD in Internet that is not much expensive but I am not sure if this disk is ok with the "Airbag" system in my TP.
In case it is a right choice, can I use my CD set to restore the factory default on the new disk?
And.. third: can I install a fresh OS (I have the full XP cd) only without using the predesktop area? In that case which software should I install from the IBM website?
