T42: Problems burning your own Recovery Discs

#1 Post by judebritto » Tue Dec 28, 2004 3:35 am

I had used the "restore to factory settings" option to install XP to a smaller partition before creating any recovery discs. When I tried to create the recovery discs ( or rescue media - whats the difference? ), it said that it could not find the necessary files.
On a hunch, I uninstalled the RnR, downloaded the newest version (~400 MB) and installed it. This time it did seem to find the files and spent some time "extracting" them ( in the predesktop area? I couldnt find the extracted files on any other partition ). However when it came to burning them, it failed with an obscure error ( i forgot what; cant repro now ). I went ahead and created the "rescue media" which makes a bootable CD with IBM RnR, and it worked fine.
Now when I try to create the recovery discs again I get an obscure error saying: "Invalid Backup Path (parameter 2)." My hunch is that it has something to do with the partitioning. I have an extra extended/NTFS partition between C: and the predesktop partition, maybe that confuses the RnR app.
Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas?

My machine is a 2378-FVU, if that helps.

have not seen your problem, before..

sounds like the extra partition might have something to do with it..

if you do a restore to factory preload it should work..

note: use a good quality CD-R as el cheapo ones produce as many coasters as finished CD's..

i know this from experience.. :)
