t41, connecting to wireless problems, wep, wpa

#1 Post by jkarlin » Sat Aug 16, 2008 7:35 pm

I am computer knowledge hanicapped
i just got a used t41, it hooked up automatically fine to unsecure networks, tried to hook up to my netgear, wpa, and it was asking for wep network key. I looked on the forum and saw the topic, downloaded the microsoft patch, I think, downloaded the updated driver for the lan 2100, and downloaded the access connection.
our network would still come up, in the wireless search box, i tried to change the properties to wpa with that security key, still nothing
so i tried to load my new dlink wireless router software on so at least I could call them for support, it would not let me load it on
now it wont even find any network to attach to, and the advance button is greyed out so I cant even work on the properties if I do find a network to try and log on to. I need major help if any one is willing, thanks

I replaced the Intel 2100 card (years ago) with the IBM 11 a/b/g card (Atheros) because the Intel 2100 card did not work properly in my wireless environment.

I think you can get these maybe here, certainly on eBay. My works well with WPA-PSK and with Access Connections on my T41. ... JDH

I'm using an Intel 2100 wireless card in a Thinkpad T41 and I have no problem on using WPA-PSK with a Linksys WRT54GL router and Access Connections.

Try uninstall the card from Device Manager (Hardware > Device Manager > Network adapters) and let Windows find it again.
