It is hard removing the combined CPU & graphics heatsink and it appears that you've done it OK.

The way I remove the heatsink is to VERY GENTLY insert a V thin screwdriver blade between the chip top and the underside of the heatsink and use that to assist in lifting it off.

I reflow such graphics chips on a regular basis with no problems - just use the same technique as when redoing the chips with no extra cover on.

<EDIT> the graphics chip looks to have a lot of sticky goo on it. I suggest you remove it using a cloth soaked in isopropyle alcohol or meths. Soak the graphics heatsink with the cloth first and then when it's softened gently rub the stuff off.

Hi,

Thx for reply, kewl, yep is a bit hard remove fan, but the white part of GPU is fine, no need to remove, cause this one is look very hard to remove. Ok i clean this with isopronol alchool, no probelm. I reflow using the technique of the forum saying cover the board in the aluminium foil, http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=57021

is right?
other thing when i apply hot, i using the elements like thermo pointer for measure temp, i apply just like 230c and after this i put like a bit far away the hot for go down the temp, is right?

sorry for my bad english...greets

What you say is correct.

You need to heat the board up slowly and after you have reached 250c, you must cool it down slowly.

Do not move the board whilst it' still hot. I don't move mine until it is warm and I can easily pick it up.

Good luck!

No problems with your questions - please ask if you're not sure about anything.

You are correct. You do not remove the white cover from the graphics chip.
