Again ... T42P/DVI/LCD/1600x1200!?

Hi fellow TP users, I have a problem ...

Got my brand new NEC 2080UX+ (20,1") LCD display yesterday, connected it to my Port Replicators DVI-Port and was unable to get the 1600x1200 resolution out of my IBM T42P (ATI FireGL T2). After hours of playing/working around - and getting a maximum of 1280x - I decided to google and read a bit ... and viola I found this forum

According to some posts here I deinstalled my default IBM/ATI drivers and installed the ATI Catalyst 4.12 drivers (with help of the mod utility) to get rid of the 1280x DVI limitation. And it really works great ...

... until I started my favourite game: MS Flight Simulator 2004 I see a lot of flickering red and green pixels on the DVI-Attached screen (NEC) as described here: http://www.thinkwiki.org/Problem_with_DVI_throughput In normal desktop operation everything is fine ...

What am I doing wrong? Will DNA or Omega drivers solve the problem?

The DNA drivers didn't solve the problem. External LCD still flickering with the game (windowed or fullscreen). Also noticed that on the external display some "colors are missing", it looks like the display is driven with 8 or 16bit colors only

This problem is driving me crazy

Anybody an idea????

Wish I could help. The DNA drivers work for me and I can get 1600x1200 using my T42p and dock, but I haven't tried to play any games yet.

Seems that I see some light at the end of the tunnel ...

The color depth problem is solved, I did a little mistake in the IBM Presentation Manager settings. I think I have 32bit colors now... sorry, my fault.

Looking at the DNA driver settings, I detected a switch called "Reduce DVI frequency on high resolution displays". After switching it on, the flickering is away!!! Don't ask me why, but it helps

Perhaps it would work without this switch!? Searching the net for information I discovered some sites/shops recommend DVI-D double-link cables (24+1) for resolutions 1600x1200 upwards. The cable shipped with my NEC is only a DVI-D single link cable (18+1). Perhaps thats part of the problem ... ?

I believe my Dell monitor came with a DVI-D (24+1) cable, but I won't be able to check until Monday, when I'll be going back to the office.

Yea, thanks. Please let me know which cable you are using and if you have turned this "seldom" switch in the driver settings on.

Ok, I checked. I'm using the DVI-D (18+1) cable. The "Reduce DVI frequency on high resolution displays" setting is unchecked.

Thank you very much! And don't forget to switch "Reduce DVI frequency on high resolution displays" on if you get screen flickering/corruption during DirectX applications (games)
