T40 motherboard

#1 Post by sn22 » Mon Aug 25, 2008 4:09 pm

Hi all, I have 2 T40's with bad motherboards. They are type 2373-7CU. Can somebody supply me with motherboard part numbers that will work for me? I want to get these up and running again.
Thanks,
Scott

Welcome to thinkpads.com! (lurking for awhile, huh :) )

Can you double-check that TYPE number again? 2373-7CU is a T40 system, not a T30.

Not a problem.. I've re-titled your original post and moved it to the proper forum.

The best resource for answering this type of question is the Hardware Maintenance Manual. The version for the T40-T42 systems is here:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-46464

The original motherboard FRU for the 2373-7CU is 91P7710. It has the ATI M7-32, 10/100 Ethernet and security chip. Other motherboards may fit inside the case but then the TYPE number on the outside will not reflect exactly what's on the inside.

You know you have a good excuse to upgrade to a T41 or T42 now. You'd gain more graphics options, faster memory and the accelerometer-based hard drive protection system. Any T4x or R5x mobo should fit in the case but an R52 or T43 motherboard would require buying additional parts like RAM and most likely CPU.
