How to use recovery CDs- problem
How to use recovery CDs- problem
When I enter Bios->Startup->Boot here is what i get:
1: usb fdd:
2: legacy floppy drives
3: atapi cd0:hl-dt-stcd-rw/dvd drive-(
4: usb cd:
5: ide hdd0: toshiba mk4026gax-(pm)
6: pci lan: iba ge slot 0208 v1217
7: -usb hdd
8: ide hdd1:
Excludedd from boot order:
: ide hdd2
:atapi cd1
I dont't know what to put first because i don't have "ide cd" or "cdrom"...or maybe it's one of these?
I'm waiting for an answer:)

Welcome to thinkpads.com!
The boot order in the BIOS is what the system will use when checking for a bootable operating system. From your example, this is what will happen:
1) The system will first look for a floppy drive that is connected to the USB port (usb fdd)
2) If no operating system is found, then the system will look for an external floppy drive. If you have a T4x system, there was no Ultrabay Slim floppy drive (that I know of) so the "legacy" drive would be one that is connected to a port replicator or docking station.
3) Next is the Ultrabay optical drive. In your case, an HLDS CDRW/DVD combo drive is installed.
4) Next is an external optical drive connected to the USB port
5) Then comes the laptop's hard drive (ide hdd0); a Toshiba 40GB drive
6) If no OS has been found to this point, the next resource that is checked is a network (ethernet) connection (pci lan)
7) Any externally connected USB hard drive will NOT be considered (-usb hdd)
And finally, if you have a Ultrabay hard drive adapter (ide hdd1) installed, that disk drive will be checked for a valid OS
What you would put "first" in the list is what you like to have as the default drive. The way that your BIOS is currently set, makes the most sense to me. Having the floppy and optical drives checked before the laptop's hard drive means that you can easily boot a diagnostic disk (floppy or CD) when having problems with your system.
