T40 audio problem - no sound

#1 Post by gerrychevelle396ss » Mon Sep 01, 2008 2:13 pm

I installed a fresh version of Windows XP on my T40 and cannot get any sound. I downloaded soundmax drivers from the Lenovo site. I checked the volume controls etc. It looks like the audio is playing but there is no sound coming out of the speakers. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Gerry.

I checked the volume buttons as you suggested with no results. I had previously taken the thinkpad apart to fix the loose graphics card (which caused the monitor to go out). I am wondering if I might have somehow disconnected the speakers in the process. I had also unplugged the trackpad so that I could insert a piece of material to keep the graphics card pushed down. I am a newbie and am stumped on this. I don't recall seeing the speakers when I had the laptop apart and am wondering if there was a plug that I might have disconnected. Thanks, Gerry.

The speaker is plugged in next to the CMOS battery. (under the palmrest to the right of the touchpad) You could have unplugged it.

So just open your laptop and then check the speakers cord as well as you still wasting time

I'll bet that this is the problem. I will fix it next time I take it apart, which will probably include increasing the RAM at that time. Thanks for your help- I think that this is it. Gerry.

You can check if the sound is working by connecting headphones to the green audio jack on the left side of the laptop. If the sound works there then you have a speakers problem.
