t42 finger reader problem

#1 Post by metricss » Tue Sep 02, 2008 8:57 pm

I am a new user, and just got a t42 thinkpad, the guy i got it from just put in a new 60gb hd and has a fresh recovery disk install. now that i have it i was trying to play with the finger print reader and the program says device not connected. I enabled the security chip in bios settings, and now under thinkpad setup in control panel of xp under security the green light is not turned on, and it says client security software not installed, how do i install this? I couldnt find it anywhere from ibm website, but i did find fingerprint software v5.6 and installed that, but still nothing. Im new to thinkpads and need help, thanks.

is it even worth getting the finger print reader working, or should i just leave it alone?

Have you unpacked the driver after downloading it?

though the fp reader can inteface with and use the security chip and css, it doesn't require them. i'm using mine on the t43 in my sig on it's own. if i recall correctly, the fp reader is actually a usb device. are you seeing any issues in the usb tree of the device manager?

I looked in device manager, and nothing in any category is showing any exclamation points or anything. also i dont know where the fpr is under device manager to look to see if the driver is installed. Do you know what else it might be called, or where else to look?

On my T43 the FPR is a USB device. Look under all the USB device hubs, one of the USB Root Hubs should show a TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor. It also shows up under the "Biometric" branch.

Have you checked in BIOS that it's enabled?
2668-75U T43, 2GB RAM, 2nd hand NMB kybd, Dock II, spare Mini-Dock, and spare Port Replicators. Wacom BT tablet. Ultrabay 2nd HDD.
2672-KBU X32, 1.5GB RAM, 7200 rpm TravelStar HDD.
