It works for me... Beautiful!

#31 Post by csarrasin » Thu Feb 24, 2005 4:51 pm

I've just purchased a ViewSonic VP201b 20" monitor (a really nice new companion for my T42p 2373-KTU) and I'm pleased to report that the 'November 2004' driver is indeed working fine for me, letting me enjoy the monitor's native 1600x1200 resolution over DVI...

Now, I just wish that next time around I won't have to buy an otherwise not very useful docking station just for the purpose of getting a DVI plug. Obviously, not having to hunt for a specific driver to be able to use a top of the line laptop to its full capabilities would also be a plus ;-) but all in all, I'm happy for the time being

Cheers to 'rcw3' for spotting that one and obviously to Conmee for being as totally useful as usual and supplying the files and of course to Bill for hosting them and selling me my T42 in the first place!

If you want to get it to work on any level of the drivers then search the HKLM\System section of the registry for:

DALRULE_ADDNATIVEMODESTOMODETABLE
Change the value to "1"

DALRULE_LIMITTMDSMODES
change the value to "0"

You will now be able to set the display mode to 16x12.

It appears that the February 1st Drivers on Microsoft Update reenables the 1600 x 1200 resolution by default, without having to hack the registry.

So is DVI *that* much better?

#34 Post by jtheun » Sun Apr 03, 2005 9:18 pm

After reading this thread, I am wondering how bad the normal VGA setup would be on a nice 24 inch monitor? Here is my debacle:

- I have a T42P
- My wife as a T23
- We have no docking station (yet)
- I want to go all out with a nice big external monitor and keyboard/mouse

I was hoping I could just use the normal VGA outputs, since it seems like the T23 and the T42p would require different docking stations...

Any advice?

its just under the charlie chaplin IBM advert..
Thanks guys!

I just downloaded the drivers and installed on my T41.
It works greate on the T41 as well (2379-DJU model) and drives my dell 2000FP at 1600x1200 via DVI :)

It was pretty easy to create a new configuration using the "Presentation Director", I will list out the steps here in case any one needs them

Start the "Presentation Director" by pressing "Fn+F7" on the laptop keyboard.
Choose "Manage Schemes..."
Create a "New" scheme
Select "External Device" only in the top checkbox.
Select "Output to both a VGA device and a DVI device"
On the next page
Select Resoultion as "1600 x 1200 (UXGA)", Color Quality "Highest (32 bit) and Refresh Rate "60 Hz".
Select "Display Device for Movie Playback" as "DVI"

The options on the next 2 pages can be left unchecked and then name the new scheme and you should be done.

Next time when you select the "Fn+F7" from the laptop, this option should be part of the list :)

To make a long story short, updated my video drivers and couldn't make my Viewsonic VP201b work at its (beauty)full 1600x1200.
It took me some time to google out this forum (dunno why, 'cause now it sems obvious).

Anyway, installed the novemeber drivers and everything is back to normal.

Thank you guys!

I have whatever driver SW installer says is the latest - 6.14.10.6476

Works fine up to 1920x1200 on DVI and has rotation (although it is deep in the control panel menus)

system

What system are you using this on?

I'd like to try them now, now that 1600 seems to be working, without the hacked drivers

Confirm: latest driver is fine with DVI 1600x1200

#40 Post by csarrasin » Sat Jun 04, 2005 7:48 am

For all you DVI fans out there: I can confirm that - emboldened by various success stories posted around the site - I have also upgraded to the latest version (as recommended by the software installer) and...

It still works fine with external DVI @ 1600x1200.

Perviously, I was using the 'Nov 2004' driver described in this thread as there were reports that later versions would no longer support external DVI @ > 1280x1024.

My system details are as follows:
14" T42P 2373-KTU
Thinkpad port replicator II
Viewsonic VP201b (20" running at native 1600x1200 attached my T42P using 4m DVI-D cable)

Null problemo :D

OK, I just found this site about a week ago while on thinkpad number 7 of my life (T42). So far, I have found out how to get my 7k100 hard drive working/cloned AND NOW (if this works) how to get my FP2001 running via DVI at its native resolution through my port replicator.

If this works, you guys KICK BUTT.

FWIW, in my independant exploration of the thinkpad world, i have come to love a program called Ultramon for running multiple monitors. Might want to check that out.
