T43: self opening cd-rom (?)

#1 Post by md23128 » Fri Sep 19, 2008 12:28 pm

That's really spooky ;)

sometimes my cd rom opens without any reason... It seems, that I have most drivers up-to-date and cant think of any other reason. It happens mostly when I move my laptop on my laps... Any thoughts?

thanks in advance, md23128

Two possible causes:

- pushbutton eject switch on the drive is broken/partially depressed
- mechanical emergency eject spring/lever is out of alignment

If the tray opens up only when the system is powered up, then I'd suspect the pushbutton eject switch. If the tray opens when the laptop is powered off, then that might mean the emergency eject system is the issue. In either case, replacing the drive should cure your ghostly problem.

Most likely what rkawakami said, but it could also be a virus.
