power issues on a t42
power issues on a t42
Sadly I'm back after a year or so with what seems to be a major power issue. Our T42 cord started to die creating on again off again issues. It did eventually die and we ordered a new cord and ran the battery down to zilch. New cord arrived (ebay generic replacement) and no luck. Ordered another used ibm model and still no luck. I pulled the battery to see if I could run completely off the ac adapter but still no dice. I don't imagine there is a fuse I could replace but I'm hoping for a simple fix. Warrenty ran out a couple months back and a new laptop isn't in the budget. Thanks in advance for your help.

When you say 'cord,' do you mean the length from the wall plug to the power supply?
Or do you mean the entire adapter - wall cord, power supply, cable to computer?

I see. Have you checked to see that the power connector (socket) on the computer is still operational?

The yellow power socket seems solid. I did some more searching on the forum and found what seems to be a similar issue related to a blown fuse. Laptop works using the battery only.
Two questions;
If it is a fuse issue would a docking station have the same power issues?
I have very low level sodering experience and would have to buy a test meter (and sadly find the fuses). I don't mind taking things apart but is this a long shot?
Thanks for your help.
