New T42 and warranty extension opportunities ?

Hiya all !

I've received my eighth Thinkpad a few days ago. It's a T42 ("Tea For Two" in english ? ). It's in mint condition, really. Awesome machine, a little noisy though (but thx to TPFancontrol, it's much more better).

I'll try to post pics soon (A friend as invited me this afternoon, I think he will be able to take some pictures).

It's refurbished (?) by IBM, and my seller offers me a 6-months warranty. I can also suscribe to an 1-year warranty, for 50€ (UPS comes home to take my laptop).

As the laptop was made in 2006 (january), I wanted to know if I had an IBM warranty on it. I checked on the site, and yes ! My T42 is under warranty until january 2009.

I've read that it's possible to ask an extension to IBM in this case.

I've searched a little, but I'm not sure to understand everything.

I've seen a topic here too, but I'm not sure to understand everything either...

My unit is a T42 2373-4ZG.

Can someone help me ?

You don't specify in which country you actually bought your T42, but I am having a sense that this might be in the USA? In any case, I would like to point your attention to the threads Certified Used T42p - Very disappointed and especially the post of Wed Dec 12, 2007 2:00 pm which is further pointing to IBM Certified used notebook questions (see the post there of Sat Dec 01, 2007 3:54 am). Also, you may perhaps benefit from reading the very recent thread Warranty 41C9180 for T43p.

If you indeed DID buy your T42 in the USA, then IBM/France may potentially NOT want to honor the International Warranty Service (IWS) coverage in France (as they should for a type 2373-T42), as discussed in the thread IBM/Denmark deny to honor warranty confirmed by IBM-Support.
