T43 Purchasing Question
T43 Purchasing Question
Hi all, After my T30 met an untimely end due to the Blink of Death, I decided to upgrade to a T43. I bought one, with certain specifications. When I got it, however, instead of the promised 64MB X300, I got the 128 MB Intel 915 card, and an XGA screen, instead of the promised SXGA. Talking to the seller, they've been very accommodating so far, however now they claim they talked to Lenovo, and say all T43's come with a maximum of resolution 1400 x 1050. I'm 99% positive that's not true.... but can you help me find the information to prove this to him?
The machine type I have is 1871-4AU
Thank you!!

Unless you will be using the machine for games, the intel GPU boards are more reliable that ATI boards. It will drive a SXGA+ LCD without any problems. You may want to find a fan with the tail designed for the GPU included Northbridge chip.
14.1 inch versions only go to 1400x1050 (SXGA+). 15 inch versions have UXGA and QXGA (kit only) resolutions.

No, it's not going to be a gaming machine. I have my desktop rig for that.sjthinkpader wrote:Unless you will be using the machine for games, the intel GPU boards are more reliable that ATI boards. However, the seller was offering a partial refund due to this discrepancy in the supplied information, to what the actual product was. I looked on the IBM website, and I found that the parts listing for mine had an XGA screen... But is there any information about what model numbers had XGA and which had SXGA screens?

14.1 inch version with intel GPU might not had the SXGA+ option.
The 15 inch versions should have SXGA+ option. I have an 1860-4QU R52 that is like this from the factory and converted an 1860-W2A R52 to SXGA+.
The intel GPU versions use a special long fan that provides cooling to the GPU included Northbridge. There are several versions to fix T43 and R52s equipped this way.

The standard fan should be ok unless you are going to change to a SXGA+ LCD, more pixel = more heat.
The intel GPU long fan is different from the long fan used in ATI machines.

The main problem here is that the market value of a T43 with Intel graphics and XGA is significantly less than ones with ATi GPU and SXGA+...at least 25%...and I'd tend to say more...
You should return the machine or ask for a partial refund IMO.

That is correct for T43 with intel GPU, no SXGA+. Only available for R52 with intel GPU.
Haven't found a T43 with intel GPU to try out a SXGA+ panel yet.
