t30 wakes up from standby when travelling

#1 Post by gallilaw » Wed Jan 05, 2005 7:59 am

Recently I have had to use hibernate instead of standby when travelling with my T30. It won't stay in standby. In a car, for example, even if it's in a fully protective case and not subject to any shocks, it will decide to turn on (with the lid still closed) using up battery and pouring off heat.

The problem seemed to develop without connection to any recent hardware or software changes.

Any ideas?

Hi-

I've seen this before. Usually caused by bad contact between the lid closure detection switch and the nub of plastic on the screen bezel that pushes that switch. Or the switch itself can be bad.

Either way, the switch doesn't stay in the "closed" position, and the computer wakes up. If investigation of the switch area doesn't reveal anything obvious, a service call is indicated, unless you prefer to set the actions for what happens when the lid opens/closes to nothing, and manually suspend/resume your computer.

Good luck. Let us know what the results are.

Marc
