Whats the highest speed you can get in a T43?
Whats the highest speed you can get in a T43?
Im curious what the best speed of Centrino Pentium M's are. Its just, the 1.83ghz works fine but getting it up to 2.4 would solve alot of problems (mainly being able to play some more recent games that lock up at the sight of a slow clock speed, dispite the fact that is a small figure when relating to actual processing power *ahemPentium4vsPentium3*ahem

Are you sure that was a Pentium 3 with 1.5Ghz? I've never seen one of those, and I've seen...well, a lot...

With all due respect, I don't believe so...
What does the BIOS report it as?

I never cared too much about what Windows say...BIOS is the ONLY thing that shows a trustworthy result.
I honestly believe that you've never seriously tested a P4M machine, because a properly set one would blow away that P3M...BTW, I've got both...and love them both.

Could you point us to a specific example? What was the machine housing that P4M?Had P4M for a while and unless a program is writen in a way that the P4 likes, the P3 blows it away.

Excuse me aren't we confusing P4M and PM? The Pentium 4 Mobile (P4M) processor is different from the Pentium M processor used in the T43 and D600.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_4#Mobile_Pentium_4
and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_m
The PM was based on the P3M architecture. Both processors have speedstepping, your D600 may have been running at a low clock frequency.

I wasn't even looking at the model specs...good catch...
My main point was that when I used to get a bulk of machines that included Dells, these got donated the very same moment...

Nope, not at all. I was comparing the D600's processor vs. the T23's. Im perfectly aware of what the T43 has in it and im curious if there is any reason if any to upgrade it. Also ajkula66 Ive had lots of experience w/ desktop p4's and most p3's still blow them out of the water. They may have solved alot of problems w/ the Hyper Threading but there is still alot that needed to be fixed. And in case you didnt know, Core 2 Duo's are based off of P3 architecture, proving that even Intel knows they screwed up.sparta.rising wrote:Excuse me aren't we confusing P4M and PM? I'm not following this...
I've specifically asked you which P4M laptop have you compared to T23, and you've quoted Dell 600 which is PM...
So I guess you've never really answered my question...
I don't deal with desktops, nor have I ever. No interest in that subject on my part. And my question was laptop-specific. T23 against ?????
Please spare us all from giving me a lecture on what certain CPUs were derived from...

Clock for clock the PIII is a bit faster than P4. And less power hungry too. Which is why a P4 is in generally considered a rather unsuccessful generation of CPUs, since it was succeeded by the vastly superior P-M architecture.
But even a 1.8GHz P4-M will blow any PIII-M away (while still being less hot and power hungry than a full-fledged P4). And these babies got all the way up to 2.4-2.6GHz.

I remember mine looking alot like that and being a Latitude. ANYWAY PEOPLE. Is their any real speed increase worth noting going up to the 2.13ghz. Im running Vista but i doubt that would make much of a difference unless cache is larger or something along those lines.TTA wrote:But the eBay auction said it was!!!!ajkula66 wrote:but that's NOT P4M...

I'd look at the other specs of your system looking for bottlenecks. If you are looking at gaming performance, you'd want to go to a discrete video card (which would require replacing the motherboard). The FireGL cards are not good for gaming. Look for a board with a Radeon X300. Is your RAM maxed? I don't know what the specs on your SSD drive are.
And honestly, with that processor going for around $200, maybe look towards upgrading to a T60/T61.[/b]

I would get a T60 but I just got this T43 a couple weeks ago. Im planning on getting a new mobo w/ the X300. The GMA900 is just a little to limiting for my tastes (Call of Duty 4 and Company of Heroes being prime examples (although I can play Company of Heroes anyway I would like to get more than 18fps.)sparta.rising wrote:I'd look at the other specs of your system looking for bottlenecks.
