Your order has been shipped.

#1 Post by mtj » Thu Jun 03, 2004 7:33 pm

I am so excited! Just got email from IBM Direct Sales that my new Thinkpad (2373-HTU, Ultrabay slim battery, Mini-dock, and Neoprene sleeve) is on its way. :D
Your order has been shipped. Use the track shipment button for information about the carrier and your tracking number. Your delivery date will be determined by the ship date and the method you selected at checkout. Actual delivery times may vary.
This will be my first ThinkPad. (Second, actually, if you count my leather-covered T. J. Watson style executive pocket thinkpad from 20 years ago.) It will replace my notebook of years, a Sony VAIO R505-JSP, which is a 700 MHz Pentium-III with 384MB RAM, an Intel-815 graphics unit, and a 1024x768 display.

Reading the various posts here I am assured that the t42p will be a great new product: faster CPU, 1 GB RAM, 7200 RPM disk, 1600x1200 display, and many, many more such as the keyboad light. While I have loved my VAIO, I just cannot take the slow CPU speed, limited RAM, and small display any more. I can't believe how excited I am.

Any advice for the unwrapping ceremony? Perhaps things to save, registration forms to fill out, extra software to install, etc?

Once you receive it don't open it for 2 weeks to allow it to settle after its long flight. LOL J.K.

Registration can be done online or oer the phone.
No Software comes with it so no need for that. I personally would save everything that comes with it boxes, foam, manuals

But most of all ENJOY

Funny!

I think part of the reason for my excitement is that I have bought it blind, never touching a ThinkPad or even seeing one up close. I hope it is great and I hope that I did not make a mistake. Two "business days" from now, I will know. ;-)

I know you will be happy.
If you have used other bran notebooks you will enjoy your new Thinkpad even more. Because you appreciate the build quality even more.

mtj, where did you find the neoprene sleeve? Is that from IBM??

I have been looking for one of those for mine.

Neoprene Sleeve

22P7382 ICON NEOPRENE SLEEVE

(or, go to www.thinkpad.com and enter 22P7382 in the search box)

It is something that I bought when I called IBM yesterday to see if the 8-week delay on my DYU could be improved. Switching to the HTU and spending a little bit more caused my ThinkPad to be shipped today!

How do you like your DYU?

Hi-

When you placed your order how long did it take for IBM to send you a confirmation email? I placed one early this morning and never got an email from them even though they said a sales rep would get in touch with me shortly. I figured it must all be automated so I am just hoping nothing got messed up between them sending it and me receiving it. I can't even check my status without my customer number in that email, not to mention my estimated ship date :P :D

Thanks-

-Dan

speed of order confirmation

#9 Post by mtj » Wed Jun 09, 2004 12:18 am

Ordered via web 2004-05-28 11:10 am

Order confirmation 2004-05-28 11:23am from usepp@ca.ibm.com
ibm.com Customer Notification # .....

Great that it was so quick, not so great that the delivery quote went from 2-4 weeks to 8 weeks. :-(

I sent email asking why the date had changed so radically in less than 15 minutes.

Got a reply at 12:16pm from cscdia@ca.ibm.com
"sorry, we are working on the issues, keep checking the online order status"

Checked over the next few days and on 2004-06-03, noticed that the status said "call the following number".

I called them, spoke with a sales rep on the phone. He said the DYU is on back order, but maybe a different model? He checked about and proposed the HTU -- costs a little more but available now. NOW? Yes, now... OK... Done!

10 Minutes later, new order confirmation email from IBM Direct Sales [ediadmin@ibm4pcs.com]

It arrived yesterday, right on schedule.

So far, it is perfect in every regard but one. The one problem? Intermittent "Delayed Write Failed" errors... Hmmm...

Turn down the sensitivity of the hard drive protection system and those delayed write errors will disappear.
