This will be my first ThinkPad. (Second, actually, if you count my leather-covered T. J. Watson style executive pocket thinkpad from 20 years ago.) It will replace my notebook of years, a Sony VAIO R505-JSP, which is a 700 MHz Pentium-III with 384MB RAM, an Intel-815 graphics unit, and a 1024x768 display.Your order has been shipped. Reading the various posts here I am assured that the t42p will be a great new product: faster CPU, 1 GB RAM, 7200 RPM disk, 1600x1200 display, and many, many more such as the keyboad light. While I have loved my VAIO, I just cannot take the slow CPU speed, limited RAM, and small display any more. I can't believe how excited I am.
Any advice for the unwrapping ceremony? Perhaps things to save, registration forms to fill out, extra software to install, etc?
