Access Con. w/Greyed Out "Find Wireless Connections&quo

#1 Post by schen » Tue Sep 30, 2008 10:53 pm

I've always used Access Connections going back to the T22, but this machine is doing something strange that I haven't seen before. I originally downloaded it from Lenovo and it worked fine for me both at home as well as in other places with open access APs. However it alway had the menu item "Find Wireless Connections" Greyed Out. Even after I updated to a newer version (5.02).

It was never an issue before, since I just used the MS Wireless Network Connection Utility when I was trying to use a public access AP, that is until recently. The last 2 times that I tried to use my machine at my Doctor's office, the MS utility failed to see ANY wireless networks! I asked the office folks and they said that it was on as always and that no one else had reported not being able to get on. From that location I've always been able to see some other encripted office networks as well and now I can't, so the problem is apparently with my machine. The only thing that has changed is possibly adding SP3 (although I don't remember exactly when I did that) or when I switch to AC v. 5.02.

At this point, I'm kinda mystified especially since I have no problems using AC on my wireless home network. I don't know why the MS Utility stopped finding signals; it acts like the radio is turned off. And for the life of me, I can't understand why the "Find Wireless Connections" is greyed out! :?
