T42 Fingerprint Logon with Windows XP

#1 Post by shinto » Sat Oct 18, 2008 9:50 pm

Okay... I've scoured the forum quite thoroughly and can't quite find answers to my questions. I have a T42 2373 M1U and it was working perfectly until I plugged in a used aftermarket battery that killed my hard drive (glitch or virus in battery management chip?)

So I did a fresh install of Windows XP SP3 and loaded all the newest drivers. Everything works including the fingerprint reader, but I can't get it to work for windows logon. It works upon resume from the screen saver and from standby, but refuses to work at logon. I get a popup window that says "The system could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain are correct, then type your password again..." and have to type a password.

1. Do I HAVE to install CSS to make this work? I'm not sure if this was previously installed.

2. The security chip is disabled. I bought this thing used as a refurb from an authorized dealer with a 90 day warranty, which is long since up. I'm a little paranoid to turn it on -- maybe it wasn't properly reset and will lock me out. It was also operating properly before without the chip enabled.

3. Fingerprint Software 5.6 (and now 5.8) have the "Fingerprint Logon" box checked along with "Do not show CTRL-ALT-DEL." Fast user switching is disabled.

4. I used a commercial Windows XP disk because I didn't have the recovery CDs until yesterday but don't want to start over (many hours of configuring). Shouldn't make any difference, but...

5. I know this doesn't work well with domains, but that isn't an issue in this case (despite the verbiage in the popup window.)

Any help is much appreciated...
