T43 stops at IBM Screen

#1 Post by shizow » Wed Oct 22, 2008 11:42 am

My T43 does not boot anymore

it stops at the IBM screen, i cannot access the BIOS anymore
i unscrewed the system, removed both memories, tested with only one memory than the other memory, removed harddrive, removed cdrom, removed wireless card, removed modem, removed touchpad, removed the battery
but it still doesnt boot

what can it be?

the history of the problem:

it started that from 5 times booting, i got the error, Harddisk error, it did not boot the OS, when i rebootet everything fine.
this was for 3 months
than it started that it stopped before booting from the OS
but it was only every 3rd time that it did not boot
than recently it booted very seldomly always halted at the IBM screen, but still sometimes it booted, i went to BIOS, sometimes it halted even when i was inside the BIOS.
i changed in the bios to see the messages instead of the IBM screen
then i found out that it halts at different moments in the booting (always before the OS loading), but when i moved the display a lot of time the boot went on, but then it halted later e.g. during loading of Ubuntu then moving the laptop resulted in going on with booting
but now it stops always at the IBM screen, i cannot get it further

any help is really appreciated

If you have tested it the way you so logically described, then either all the memory failed (not all that likely) or else the system board has failed (the more likely case). ... JDH
