trouble with RRbackup and CD/DVD drive X40

I am trying to do a RRbackup system restore from CD/DVD set I created about a year and a half ago. Boot disk and 5 C disks.

The backup seems to run but VERY slowly and now seems hung on Disk C 4 at 88%. Both CD drive and HD drive intermittently show "activity". It has not changed over night.

I would like to try to run a system restore from a USB HDD and wonder if it is possible to copy the Restore files from the DVD's to the USB drive and then select that for the source for the restore files.

The startup disk works fine.
