T43 left hand button on the Ultranav Touchpad not working

#1 Post by doog » Thu Oct 23, 2008 11:59 am

Would anyone have a link or video on how to replace the Ultranav Touchpad.
The left hand button is not working on the Ultranav Touchpad of my T43.

Thanks,

I've got a T40 Touchpad in front of me, and I think it'll be the same.

It's very straight forward.

Refer to the link document in my signature on removing the screws on a T4x.

Remove the Keyboard.

Before going any further, check that the small rectangular pad which sits underneath and to the right of the keyboard buttons aperture, is properly pushed into its socket.

If it is, go ahead and remove the Palmrest as per the document.

Turning the Palmrest over, the Touchpad is simply removed by undoing the four screws holding it in place.

Check the ribbon cable which plugs into the main board, is properly located in the connector on the touchpad board.

Check the little 3 wire ribbon cable from the buttons to the board is also properly connected.

You can't check the other end at the button end, since it disappears into a plastic sandwich, out of which poke the button switches.

Each button pad is held in by a thin plastic side arm running alongside the touchpad, and which can be easily unclipped from the metal chassis.

Looking underneath each button, there should be a black rubber cone thing which gives the button that 'click' feel. They easily fall out so be careful.

Check the rubber cones are properly fitted (or present!) in the the little holes in the plastic sandwich.
Also check that there's no dirt inside the plastic sandwich holes; this could stop the left button from working.

Having said that, it's easy to change the touchpad, but it's also unlikely you can get a replacement without buying a replacement palmrest.

If you want any photos of the touchpad assembly, let me know & I'll do some tomorrow.

Thanks that was a great help!! :D
It doesn't look to difficult.
Since you have a touchpad assembly there.
I would appreciate it if you could get a few photos.
It might even come in handy for someone else down the road.

Thanks,

Thanks David.

The following two are in the pipeline:

Fuses on T4x boards - this is to tie up a lot of current forum information into one hopefully clearer photo pdf document.

Also I've got the photo set for T30 screws and just need to pdf it.

Hi!
I had the same problem on my T40 recently. Cause of the fault: You use the left mouse button much more than the right. So first cure is simply to clean the rubber cones (made of special conducting rubber, which thus makes the contact). And if the left one seems worn, simply swicth the two :D

Worked for me!

:?: Thx guyz...great postand now HERE is the issue that is similar to the one in the thread...
IT's THE RIGHT BUTTON on my T43 UltraNav that is unresponsive/won't work? nither the Trach Point Right Button
while both the LEFT buttons are functional..?
However all the properties and related confugratios are returned "THIS DEVICE IS WORLING PROPERLY" and also when using MSFT ARC-MOUSE with mini reciever the PROPERTIRES(RT/BUTTON) on the ARC MOUSE is working OK?
also the LEFT BUTTON on the Track point and UltraNav is working fine?
Any assist with video or related resources asap will be greatly appreciated ..thanks ahead
