T40p - OpenGL on FireGL 9000 - need old drivers - SOLVED
T40p - OpenGL on FireGL 9000 - need old drivers - SOLVED
Problem launching the i.e. Warsow or Return To Castle Wolfenstein. Warsow will not start with error message "could not load opengl32.dll", RTCW will not start with message "Could not start OpenGL subsystem". Some OpenGL test tool displayed in results, that I have no HW support for OpenGL and card is able to perform 100% features of OpenGL 1.1 and about 12% features of OpenGl 1.2. 0% for higher versions.
I used last IBM/Lenovo video driver package, then modified Catalyst drivers and Omega drivers, but all of them gave me the same result, even with the option "Enable hw OpenGL HW support" or something like that... (you can find it somewhere in Advanced... settings).
So the question is - how the hell I can get this thing running ? FireGl cards should be designed with support especially for OpenGL.
Additional info: from reading multiple threads across Internet I found the fact, that for someone was OpenGL probably working and MAYBE because of using the very first IBM driver package (version less than 6.14.10.something). Unfortunately, I was not able to find this old driver package.
Is there anyone with OpenGL working OK ? Or which applications/games are working for you w/o problems ?

I have the same problem. I tried modifying the Catalyst drivers, played around with the Omega ones, all to no avail. It seems that there are two openGL drivers in the ATI driver package, a regular one, and a FireGL one. I even tried playing around with the registry, switching the their names around, and I got to the point that hardware acceleration appeared, howewer most games badly crashed either on startup or after a few seconds of gaming.
Note 1: If my memory serves me right, the driver that's installed after a clean system install from recovery cds did support hardware rendering, and subsequent driver updates from IBM caused irreversible problems.
Note 2: I have succesfully run RTCW on linux, accessing the game files on my windows partition. Everything ran flawlessly, and at a very high frame rate. So the problem is not hardware, but rather software related.
So if anyone comes with a solution to OpenGL hardware acceleration problems under XP on T40p (they're specific to that machine), I'll be eternally grateful.

I agree that this can be mainly the software issue. But I was not able to find ANYONE who can provide me the original driverpack as the Lenovo website is providing only the most recent version for download or update via system update tool. Unfortunately my disk has no more recovery partition (bought it used and with disk cleaned).
Yestreday I played Counter Strike (non Steam) and switching to OpenGL was (what a surprise) not possible, I got some message about OpenGL not available. But HW accel. seems to be working via DirectX. Unfortunately, not every software is able to work via DirectX. The FireGL 9000 itself seems to be very nice card. I have only to take a look inside the thinkpad to check if I have short or long fan and maybe buy a long one to prolong the GPU life.

So after trying multiple ways how to solve the problem (failed
) I am looking for old drivers. Is there anyone who is still using it
OR is there anyone who has them somewhere backed-up

I don't have the drivers but, i am using the latest drivers on my son's A31p my daughter X31 and my T43p and we are able to use open gl applications. Why don't you give a try and run the recovery cd's?Beaver wrote:So after trying multiple ways how to solve the problem (failed) I am looking for old drivers. Is there anyone who is still using it

If you don't have them you might post a WTB in the market place here in the forum.
X32/2.0GHZ/2GB/ENGENIUS EMP-8602+S 600mw mini pci/WD 250GB
X60/1.83GHZ/2GB/Atheros/7K100

Trying to find them on the web, for now I found the page http://www.<promotion of site not allowed>.com/Restore_Disks_1.html with the CD sets and probably I can use the IBM FRU P/N 01R8046. Instead of giving away money for something I should had enclosed to my laptop I prefer download it for free
The best option will be to get Czech recovery set ( 01R7650), but I can use the English (US) 01R8046 (replaces 01R7637). For the best results in finding the old driver probably I need the IBM FRU P/N 01R7637 which should be the original one.

Search on the web for 1rd631ww. That set of drivers worked for me, with OpenGL 1.3 support.Beaver wrote:So after trying multiple ways how to solve the problem (failed) I am looking for old drivers. Is there anyone who is still using it

I found it recently at http://bulma.net/~jander/tmp/1rd631ww.exe
Or you can PM me and I'll send you my copy of it.
Or download it fromkfc73 wrote:Search on the web for 1rd631ww. That set of drivers worked for me, with OpenGL 1.3 support.Beaver wrote:So after trying multiple ways how to solve the problem (failed) I am looking for old drivers. Is there anyone who is still using it

Or a version I slightly modified to support high resolution DVI when used with the port replicator:
