rundll32.exe error ?
When I turn off my T42, I have for the last 4 month an error window that say: rundll32.exe not responding. I click end now and my TP never shuts down, I just have the picture of my desktop on. I have to hold the power button down until it shuts down. The laptop is working fine so I never really looked into it until today. It seems that it is related to the battery maximizer. the program is PWRMONIT that has the rundll32.exe. I have registry mechanic and it always leaves one error/problem after scan and repair. I tried the unregistered uniblue registry booster and it found 266 error or problems. Why such a big difference?
I have a picture of both result but I don't know how to attached it.
How could I fix the problem?[/img]

rundll32.exe is a normal part of the Windows operating system. However, in some cases it can also be malware (virus, trojan, worm, spyware, keylogger, etc.). You should probably run a system scan using any number of antivirus and/or spyware detection programs. I've found AVG 8.0 to be easy to use and does not seem to put too much strain on the system. Besides that, it's free
. Whether or not it catches every piece of malware out there, I don't know. I don't go to dodgy sites, don't use torrents or file sharing services and am careful in what I download.
I'm not familiar with those registry scanners. They may not be able to detect all types of malware. Why the big difference in error detection? One might be "blind" to certain exploits, while the other could be too strict in defining what a threat is. It's just like every antivirus program; some do better than others.
Posting images requires that you be able to upload them to a either a photo sharing site (like photobucket.com) or a personal web site. You then include the web address to the image. Thinkpads.com does not allow any file uploads.

It appears that Registry Mechanic is reporting that the flash9.ocx file is a problem (Google the CLSID number, 1171A6....). I'm not sure if this is a valid error but I see that some people have had problems trying to remove the file after running the Flash uninstaller or are complaining about not being able to shutdown the system (what you are experiencing). My best guess would be to uninstall any and all Flash players and see if that does the job. You can always download the latest version (currently 10.0.12.36) from here:

By the way, the file you uploaded does not appear correctly as an image as it does not have a .JPG filename extension. I had to save the file locally on my system and rename it.

rkawakami, thank you for letting me know about the uploaded file. I added .jpg and it seems to work. It is strange that from AOL, it was working fine before but when I tried IE and Mozilla firefox, it was giving me only letters and numbers. I will try your advice and I will let you know the result. It could help others too.
RESULT: I did remove the program an reinstalled it and now, NO MORE ERROR when Windows closes! Windows shuts down very fast.
In Registry mechanic, I still have the same error. If it doesn't bother anything, I can live with it.
THANK YOU!
