T43: Re-enters hibernation after coming out of hibernation

#1 Post by JSS3rd » Mon Nov 03, 2008 8:36 am

I've searched for an answer to this "problem", but haven't found one.

My T43 (1871-W13), running XP Pro SP3, enters hibernation quickly and emerges just as quickly, even with the 2010 error (Hitachi 160GB HTS541616J9AT00 HDD). The "problem" is that, unless I provide either a keyboard or mouse input within about a minute after the computer emerges from hibernation, the computer re-enters hibernation on its own.

The situation is unrelated to either the hard drive or the amount of RAM (2GB), as the same problem existed with the stock machine (60GB drive, 512MB RAM). All Lenovo software/drivers is/are up to date.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

This should be software related. It will be hard to know what program is causing this. Backtrack as to what you had installed recently. But undoubtedly a new OS install should fix it.

This has been a longtime issue, though not a serious one, as my computer comes out of hibernation quickly enough that I'm almost always ready to use it when it does. It's only when I walk away to do something else in the meantime that it happens.
But undoubtedly a new OS install should fix it.
That's not gonna happen if I can help it as, otherwise, my laptop is running smooth as silk. Besides, I'd just re-install the same software I already have on the computer.:D

Mostly, I was wondering if anyone else had run into the same thing and what, if anything, they had done about it.

Maybe this is a feature and not a problem. I remember my A31p doing something similar. When I brought it back from hibernation (by pressing the power button), and then walked away for a few minutes, it was gone back into hibernation when I came back.
I always thought this was an energy savings feature .

I wondered about the same thing. If it is, I'd think there'd be some documentation of it somewhere. If there is, I haven't seen it.

Agree - if your laptop is not connected to the AC it's rather fetaure than a bug. It's even logical - you are not working, laptop should hibernate (maybe to prevent discharge on accident power-on).

My laptop is on AC power 99% of the time and, even when it's running on battery, automatic hibernation is disabled.

Just to clarify, this happens only when the laptop comes out of hibernation and I don't provide an input from either keyboard or mouse within the first minute or so. Otherwise (although it doesn't usually happen), the computer can remain on for hours even though there's no input.

I had a very similar problem with my T43 putting it into standby or hibernate from a logged in session ... it would power down, but on next "wake" it would "remember" that it was supposed to be hibernating/suspending.

I think it had to do with my using Omega drivers.

I had something similar, which I put down to a double mouse click on the turn off method selection being saved, I think, by VistaStartMenu in combination with my bluetooth mouse. Newer versions of VistaStarMenu seems to have cleared the problem (for me.) [EDIT: No it hasn't cured it....]

Do you get the same problem if you enter hibernation by shutting the lid?

It couldn't be a mouse click in my cases as I was using a configured FN+____ combination. I'm pretty sure it was introduced by the OMega drivers, but might've been another update, as I was updating back then (2006) regularly.

I have Power Manager set to do nothing on closing the lid, so no I haven't tried that.

FWIW, I have no Omega drivers installed, and never have had , but that's an interesting idea about the machine "remembering" that it was supposed to be hibernating.

At present, I use only the Fn+F12 combination to enter hibernation ... closing the lid does nothing, but I can see how it might be a useful way to hibernate, especially if the computer is moved around a lot. Mine isn't ... generally, I remove it from the port replicator only to stow it in its travel case, so the lid remains open most of the time.
