ibm T42 numbering: 2379DXU vs 2378RTU etc.

#1 Post by zver17 » Mon Jan 10, 2005 4:46 pm

Can somebody shed some light on the indexing/naming/numbering on the t42's - it seems confusing - 2379DXU 2378RTU etc.. Eg, is "higher=better"? but the 2378 has 80GB drive whereas 2379=60GB.
thanks,z

Higher does not mean better and I'm not sure it ever did. For example, (by and large), the 2373 was a corporate version with three year warranty whereas (by and large) the 2378 was an express version with one year warranty. A 2647 was an older machine. Also, drives are not created equal, and for me, a 60Gb drive is better because it is a faster drive. ... JD Hurst
