T43p on port replicator driving two LCDs

#1 Post by kchung » Mon Nov 10, 2008 5:03 pm

Anyone out there using two displays (one DVI, one VGA) off a port replicator II?

The LCDs in my scenario are two NEC 2070NX 1600 x 1200 displays.

The end user says that his system is randomly shutting down on him and speedfan says the temperature is running about 72 -86 C which seems pretty high to me (he has the laptop lid closed).

I've asked him:
a) To run with the laptop lid open
b) what the laptop temperature is when running at home off the dock.

I'm wondering if it's too much to expect that the T43p can handle two big LCDs at the same time.

I just ordered a prII last night off ebay, and was wandering this exact same thing... however I also want to know if you can use both the DVI port, and the VGA port in conjunction with the built in LCD for a 3-way setup.

AS long as your video card has 64MB of RAM or more, I don't see a technical problem driving that many pixels from the laptop... however, I suspect we will be limited to one prII port + Internal LCD. Mainly because I'd be willing to bet the ATI cards only support up to two monitors at a time, and the fact that the prII is basically a pass-thru device for the D-Sub that is already on your laptop. (well mine anyway, I don't know if later T4x models had a DVI port on them or not.)

Still, I have not personally tried this, and am very intrigued to hear from somebody who has.

The answer on the 3 display set up using the PRII is a 'No'.
