TP T21 Temperature Problem

#1 Post by fabbraun » Tue Jan 11, 2005 2:55 pm

Hello

I own a IBM Thinkpad T21wich worked for about one month perfectly. But once when I used the Notebook for about four hours it suddenly crashed and tried to reboot but this action ended in a reboot loop. Afterwards it was impossible to work with the NB because it always crashed. I put it away and about two weeks later i was able to use it but only for about one hour --> afterwards the same strange behaviour occured. This fault occurs with all possible constellations of power sources (with battery, without battery, ...). After another two weeks it worked again for about two hours with full cpu usage.
This really looks like a temperature fault, don't you think so?
I checked the CPU-Fan and it works correctly. The rotation impulses are also correct (measured with the oszilloscope).
I put new HTC (heat transporting compount - or how do you call this in english?) on the heatsink and the cpu but it didn't solve the problem.
Is there anybody outthere who knows this problem and how to solve it?
Or is there anybody wich could provide me a service manual (electronic schematic) from this NB wich would help me to locate the error source.

Thanks for your help!

Fab

reseat CPU, memory and the cards. Clean the gold contacts with a simple rubber erasure and re-insert. This might solve the problem.
It did on my T20 with same symptoms.
