Cracked 14.1 T42 screen - will any T4* 14.1 work? 15"?

#1 Post by canflyboy » Fri Nov 14, 2008 10:42 am

I've go to crack on my T42 14.1" screen and would like to replace it. Ebay has tons of them. Will any of the 14.1 screens work?

Can I easily swap it our with a 15" screen?

Thanks

15" won't fit. Some 14" screens work and some don't. I realize that is not much help. There are multiple connector sizes and locations for the panels

Your T42 14.1" LCD may be replaced by a 14.1" LCD that comes from a similar T4x Thinkpad: Any 14.1" T40/T41/T42/T43 (/p). There are users who have tried to use other types of LCD's (from e.g. Dell's) and haven't succeeded; see e.g. the thread T40 lcd replacement and T4x LCD replacement issue.

For information about what LCD's to watch out for (either on eBay or more preferably via the Marketplace in this forum), I suggest you see the following threads: How hard is DIY replace a LCD screen on T42p and Looking for a Part for T41p and LCD inverter problem and Replacing T42 Screen to a SXGA+ 14.1 PN:46L2495 and LCD replacement question.

If going on eBay, watch out for used thinkPad's sold as "Parts only", which typically have dead motherboards but may be found quite cheap. Of course, such used Thinkpad's (sold "as is" and "no returns) may potentially have scratched or dull (weak CCFL) LCD's, so again... the Marketplace on this forum is a more safe place to trade parts.
