The dimming function in the battery maximiser program is a bit over-eager to dim. Even though in the program (which is a bit confusing because there's two options to dim), I told it to dim after 1 minute of inactivity, it will sometimes dim while using the mouse and take a while to come back. It is clearly the software that dims it and no hardware problem because the OSD indicates that the brightness is lowered.
I got rid of this functionality and got me a python script which will dim the screen. This one works perfectly, but alas, it will also dim the screen when watching a film.
t42 dimming is a bit too eager
