Hi there i'm have recently bought a T22 with SXGA+ screen
2647-AEU model.
900 MHZ
384 MB (sometimes)
I bought the T22 from the USA over ebay because i couldnt find
a model with the SXGA+ screen anywhere else and certainly not
in denmark and no luck in europe/UK either (didnt find this forum or i might have bought from here), i searched for a couple af months and called a few stores, but no luck.
Alas i tried Ebay.
The computer looks in very good conditions, nice finish no scratches, tight keyboard, better than on my T20.
Though i think previous owner was smoker, because there were yellow grey spots on the screen that i have now removed, except in the left bottom corner, there is a little grey shade on the screen size ca 1/5", thta i cannot get rid of.
Now this computer works fine except that it sometimes do not detect one of my memory sticks. It doesnt stop working i just work with less ram, XP being dog-slow with 128 MB.
Things i tried:
I tried changing the memory with some 128 sticks i have lying around, from IBM. Works perfectly in my T20.
I changed position of the ram sticks in the memory banks
and that verified that Ram in memory bank 1 (the other 0) sometimes
doesnt get registered.
Leaving me with only 256 MB of ram or if i switched the 256 and 128 MB sticks only 128 MB.
Whenever i reseat the ram this problem seems to go away for awhile.
But slowly becoming more persistant.
From here the problem comes and goes periodically.

Does anybody have suggestions as to what the issue could be.
It looks alot like the T30 memory bank problem, but i havent found a single other instance of this mentioned about the T22 on this Forum or elsewhere.
Suggestions appreciated

PS. Nice forum you have, there seems to be quite knowledgeable people here

I had this problem on a T22. I worked in IT for a company that used thousands of ThinkPads and the Windows guys said it was a pretty typical problem on the T22s as well as the T30s.
Basically my 2nd memory slot got a flaky connection. Replacing the main board is the solution.
I'll say this for that T22...it took quite a beating before it started breaking down. I'm much kinder to my delicate T42.

Weee.
Called ServiceGruppen (the service group), that IBM said i should contact because i'm out of warranty.
A new system board costs 5700 danish korners, or ~1000 US dollars 766 Euro (included vat ; ))
Mymy thats a bit on the expensive side, isnt it.
i also have some little trouble with the screen.
Sounds like the cable between the lcd and the board.
From what i've read on this forum.
I think i've seen someone say he got a new one for 20 dollars(or was it euro). quoted price at ServiceGruppen was 600 danish kroner or 105 dollars.
Other places to get these ? ebay the only option? or should i wait a couple of years til i can afford atrip to the usa ; ).
If people have other suggestions where i can find parts it would be appreciated.
I would like to get new(ish) manufactured parts so i dont trade problems. put at that premium price i should buy a newer machine thats still in warranty like the T40P or T41P.
I am trying out jwschmid(spelled right?) T30 solution, if that works out i properly am going to live with that as it takes care of the memory problem. still i'm going to try to change the lcd cable!
Thanks to jwschmid for the quick response, of how to do it.
PS. 256 MB ram for T22 cost ca. 200 dollars here in denmark(recently cost about 150-60 dollars),
how is that compared to others here on the board (usa, german, others)
